driving with eileen

This was our first theatre play produced for an online audience and written by Lorna Rose Treen and Jonathan Oldfield.

Inspired by the recent pandemic, the plot takes us to a world where everything keeps re-adjusting and everyone is trying to cope in their own way. Some people can work from home easily, but what happens if you’re a driving instructor?

Our main character, Paulie, tries to mirror-signal-manoeuvre his way through a remote driving lesson with eccentric driving instructor Elaine!

Written by Lorna Rose Treen and Jonathan Oldfield
Directed by Tom Brocklehurst
Starring Sarah Somerville and Lanre Danmola.

Officially premiered on Friday 17th July 2020

You can watch the whole play on our official YouTube Channel:

croydon EMERGING WRITERS programme (online)

In collaboration with Stanley Halls in Croydon and supported by Arts Council England, our Emerging Writers online programme launched in August 2020 giving local writers the opportunity to work with renowned playwright and facilitator Jennifer Farmer to develop their craft. Jennifer’s work focuses on amplifying under-represented voices and she has written for the Kiln, Birmingham Rep, Clean Break, BBC Radio, Paines Plough and the Belgrade Theatre.

We had over fifty applications for the scheme, and we took in thirteen talented people in total to participate in the four month period course. By the end of the programme our new writers will have an opportunity to have their work tried out with professional actors and showcase their theatrical works in an online event in November.

For more information with regards to this educational initiative you can send your enquiries to norman@disentangle.org

THE GIRL WHO FELL THROUGH THE WORLD

An inspiring tale that was told online over the COVID-19 pandemic, partially broadcasted from Stanley Halls, a studio and from people’s homes.

The Girl Who Fell Through the World was an original tale about Ola, a 10 year old girl. She is clever, confrontational and, most of all, bored.

One day she finds a book that was not there before. This book transports her to other parts of the world. This was a story about growing up in a world holding you back. A coming of age voyage of self-discovery for 6-10 years olds.

We’ve commisionned story traditional story tellers from all over the world and with a particular focus on tales from Poland, Africa, India and South America and people who represent better the community mix in Croydon and South London in general.

The online show was also funded by Croydon Council Culture Relief Fund and viewers were tuning in to watch a different story every week, told through the eyes of Ola.

You can find more information about the show here, or you can watch the episodes on our Youtube channel.
